A Week of Firsts and a Dedication Ceremony
My first week at Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County has been a profound journey, filled with remarkable people and experiences that I am eager to share.
My first Habitat family encounter was with Vianney Espinosa and her two beautiful boys. As a mother, I felt an instant connection to her. We both understand that a “home” is the foundation for a safe neighborhood and a quality education. Looking at her I saw a reflection of my own journey as a single mother striving to provide the very best for her children through hard work and perseverance. Witnessing her achieve the dream of homeownership has filled me with deep encouragement for all our future Habitat families.
My first walk through a completed Habitat home was at our Buchanan Trail West location in Greencastle, my own town. The warm feeling as I entered each room left echoes in my mind of the laughter that would soon fill these walls. I could smell the combined ingredients of home cooked meals from her family’s Mexican heritage.
The week culminated in a beautiful dedication ceremony on Sunday, March 1, 2026. It was a powerful gathering where the community came together in support. As music played and a slideshow chronicled the journey of volunteers and the Espinosa family, the air was filled with memories of breaking ground and painting walls. Family members who could not attend in person spoke a message of love to her, bringing tears to everyone’s eyes. Future Habitat homeowners stood in support of this beautiful family knowing how truly meaningful this moment was. This wonderous day, complete with shared food, songs, and the gifting of the Word of God, is one I will never forget.
While this was the 62nd home dedicated by Habitat of Franklin County, it was my first. Seeing how many lives have been transformed by this organization has strengthened my resolve to advance the work of Habitat for Humanity fully.
