A planned community of affordable homes

Did you know?

Making homes affordable for lower income families has become more difficult each year as the prices of lots for building have risen. Habitat searches high and low for affordable building lots throughout Franklin County and often loses out on lots to commercial builders.

For many years, Habitat’s leadership has floated the idea of purchasing a larger plot of land on which to develop lots for numerous affordable homes.

In 2025, that idea will become a reality. Enter EdenView.

What is EdenView?

EdenView is a plot of land in Hamilton Township that consists of 25.5 acres. Since 2023, HFHFC has been doing its due diligence with studies, planning, and projecting infrastructure costs prior to purchasing the land. HFHFC projects that this plot of land off Keefer Road will be able to accommodate 71 building lots for affordable, modest homes. This land was chosen due to its central location in our county, availability of public water and sewer, and because it is shale ground, which is easier to excavate than limestone.

Why “EdenView?”

The concept of “Eden” is from scripture, where things were created to function in beauty and harmony and the “View” entails rolling hills and mountains as you look across the land. The name is also a nod to the area, known as “Edenville.”

How will EdenView help Habitat in their vision of “A world where everyone has a decent place to live?”

Habitat homes are just the right size—big enough for families’ needs but small enough to keep costs down. Eventually providing 71 affordable homes for lower income families, EdenView is a huge step in working toward eliminating the shortage of affordable housing in Franklin County.

Not only is Habitat excited about building homes at EdenView, but so are other community leaders. Not all homes will be built by Habitat, and the affordable housing community will be joining to help build homes. Partnerships and bringing people together is central to Habitat’s mission. Our desire is to provide space for a true diverse community.

How can you help?

Developing a large plot of undeveloped land requires a significant amount of upfront investment to prepare buildable lots. Habitat is looking to raise the funds to ready the land for building over the next year. Lots will be affordable when the cost is evenly split, but the initial cost for infrastructure is immense.  We welcome cash gifts and gifts given in kind to reduce costs.
